Meghan Carter
Meghan advocates for clients in a broad range of intellectual property issues, with the majority of her practice focused on trademark prosecution and litigation. With her varied experiences, Meghan brings a holistic view to her practice and excels at finding creative solutions to clients’ problems.
Prior to joining IPC, Meghan gained invaluable experience in trademark law and practice through her work as a Trademark Examining Attorney for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In analyzing thousands of trademark applications and related issues and in working with trademark attorneys, she obtained insight into effective practices that achieve clients’ goals and navigate the complexities of trademark prosecution.
Meghan also honed her skills as a litigator, practicing for over a decade at a large, nationally-known law firm and small, boutique firms in New Orleans. Her practice consisted of complex litigation, at both the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts, including litigation related to intellectual property, contractual disputes, property and environmental issues, and employment. Over the course of her career, Meghan has successfully advocated for clients, particularly in resolving disputes at pre-trial and post-trial stages through motion and appellate brief practice.
Prior to practicing law, Meghan served for two years as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Stanwood R. Duval, Jr., retired United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University, graduating summa cum laude in English literature, and earned her Juris Doctorate from LSU Law School graduating cum laude, where she was a member of the Louisiana Law Review and co-founded the journal, the LSU Journal of Energy Law and Resources.
She has since continued to contribute to legal scholarship, publishing several articles, and has served as an editor for the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Bar Journal.
